Introduction
Welcome to Primary 1 English
This course follows the Lagos State Unified Scheme of Work (NERDC-aligned) across three terms and 39 teaching weeks. Every week builds five strands: Phonics/Speech, Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing/Composition.
Our recurring pupil character — curious, confident, learns alongside the class all year.
Ada's classmate — the two appear throughout every week's story to give lessons continuity.
How each week is structured
Weekly Learning Path
A day-by-day roadmap showing the sequence of sessions for the week.
Speech & Letter Work
Oral language, phonics and letter-sound/letter-name practice.
Comprehension
Listening or reading passages with simple response questions.
Grammar
The week's sentence pattern or structure focus.
Composition
Guided writing practice, from pre-writing strokes to full sentences over the term.
Dictation & Spelling
Listen-and-repeat and, from later weeks, spelling practice.
Weekly Assignment
Take-home tasks for pupils and parents.
Weekly Quiz
A short, low-stakes self-check of the week's learning.

Each week ships with a full teacher guide (timing, notes, question prompts, misconceptions, rubrics, and answer keys) — use it alongside these pupil-facing pages.
